What is Arrhythmia?
It occurs due to a malfunction in the heart’s electrical impulses, causing the heartbeat to be out of rhythm. This includes tachycardia (fast), bradycardia (slow), or irregular beats.
Causes:
- Heart attack or heart muscle damage

- Electrolyte imbalance (potassium, sodium)
- Thyroid disorders
- Smoking, alcohol, stress
- Certain medications
Symptoms:
- Rapid or slow heartbeat
- Chest discomfort or tightness
- Dizziness or fainting
- Shortness of breath
- Sensation of “skipped” or “jumping” heartbeats
Diagnosis:
- ECG (electrocardiogram)
- Holter monitor (24-hour heart rhythm recording)
- Heart ultrasound
- Blood tests
Treatment:
- Antiarrhythmic medications
- Radiofrequency ablation
- Pacemaker implantation
- Healthy lifestyle adjustments
